General Questions
What’s the weather going to be like?
Well, that’s a tough one. It’s mid-September, in mid-Maine, so there’s no telling what we’ll get. Some years it’s 70° by day and in the 50s by night. But other years it’s low 60s by day, and dipping under 40° at night.
So your best bet is coming prepared for both. Bring light clothes and your optimism, but don’t forget jeans and a couple layers so you’re comfortable after the sun sets.
And hey, bring your swim suit if you’re feeling really, really brave!
How should I dress for the ceremony?
Show up dressed in whatever’s comfortable or fun for you. For some that’s jeans and a favorite t-shirt, for others it’s a great excuse to give that swanky cocktail dress its moment in the sun. We’re getting a little fancy ourselves— ‘cause, hey, we are getting married— but for you, anything goes!
Well, except heels. Our ceremony will be outside (weather permitting) and heels have a way of sinking into the soft ground. So we suggest leaving the heels at home or bringing another pair of shoes specially for the ceremony.
What are the start times for everything?
If you can make it, our rehearsal cookout is at 5pm Friday, September 12th. Stay as late as you’d like to raise a keg cup, eat some good food and play some tunes with friends and family.
The ceremony kicks off at 3pm Saturday, September 13th. If it’s nice out (fingers crossed), we’ll head down to the lakeshore for the nuptials. After that, the party begins!
Can I come to the rehearsal dinner? I thought those things were only for family…
We’re making a whole weekend out of it, and our rehearsal cookout is open to everyone— friends and family alike. We’ll do our rehearsal thing with the immediate family, while you gather around the keg up at the barn. We’ll join you for a traditional Maine cookout and maybe follow it up by busting some dance moves in the barn.
If you’d like to attend and didn’t check the box on your RSVP ticket, let us know ASAP, because the camp needs a head count. We’ll let you know if there’s still time to add you to the list.
Can I bring my tent and camp on the grounds?
Sorry, but tent-style camping isn’t allowed on the grounds. Check out our lodging recommendations, but we encourage you to explore the Oakland/Waterville area online to find accommodations that are just your style!
Did you guys finally register or what?
Yeah, so we weren’t really sure what to do about the registering thing for a while. Having you at our wedding is gift enough for us! But if you’d still like to celebrate our wedding with a gift, you can check out our Amazon registry. We’ve put things here we’d like to have, but nothing we need terribly. So feel free to go “off list,” or make a donation to your favorite charity in our name. Whatever feels right to you, we’ll appreciate!
Questions about Staying at Alden Camps
Is breakfast included? Or any other meals?
Join us in the dining room on Saturday and Sunday mornings for a continental breakfast, included in your rental fee. Other than that, we’ll be holding a cookout on Friday at 5pm, and we’ll dig into hors d’oeuvres shortly after the ceremony ends in the afternoon on Saturday. A buffet-style dinner follows.
Other than that, you’ll be on your own food-wise. We suggest stopping into D&L Country Store to grab some snacks. Waterville is also just a quick 15-minute drive away if you’d like to grab a sit-down dinner.
Are towels provided?
Yes, your cabin comes with fresh towels. But laundry service is not available over the weekend, so plan on re-using yours for your stay.
Are the cabins heated?
Yes— each cabin is heated. You might not need it, but you’ll have heat as a back up.
Is there a gas station or convenience store nearby?
D&L Country Store is just a mile away. Stop in to pick up some basic supplies and snacks. Here are directions from camp.
Are there bathrooms and showers in the cabins?
You bet. Cabins are rustic in style, but come fully equipped with all the modern good stuff like full bathrooms, a mini-fridge and heat.
Are there any cabins left?
Sorry— right now all the cabins are booked. But other lodging options are just a quick 15-minute drive away.
When should I arrive to check in?
You’ll need to officially check in with the camp to start your stay. For people staying both nights, you need to be checked in by 3pm on Friday. If this is a problem, let us know or contact the nice folks at Alden Camps to see if any other options are available.
If you’re staying for Saturday night only, we encourage you to come early to check in and get situated in your cabins before the ceremony starts at 3pm.
Can I come and stay Thursday night, too?
If your assigned cabin is unoccupied, you’re welcome to rent it for Thursday night, too. The same rates apply, and you need to call the camp to make your payment and arrangements.
